Abstract
1,163,213. Safety belt, FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. 3 March, 1967, No. 10128/67. Heading A3V. A safety belt arrangement e.g. for a motor vehicle, includes a safety belt having at least one of its ends secured to an anchorage concealed behind a panel, the belt projecting through an aperture in the panel. As described a lap and diagonal safety belt arrangement is formed by a single strap 5 secured to two concealed anchorages 7, 8 and a buckle 6 which can slide along the strap 5 and which can be releasably secured to a third anchor point 9. The panel which conceals the anchor points 7, 8 consists of an inner metal skin (Fig. 3) and a moulded polypropylene trim panel 16. The anchorage 7 consists of a spring loaded reel 13 on a bracket 12 which is welded to the metal skin 11. The reel 13 retracts the strap 5 when not in use and may be provided with an inertia mechanism which locks the reel if the payout rate of the strap 5 exceeds a predetermined value and/or if the deceleration of the vehicle exceeds a predetermined value. The strap passes through a slot 14 in the inner metal skin 11, the slot being provided with a p.v.c. grommet 17 to reduce wear on the strap 5, and through a slot 15 in the trim panel 16. The second anchorage 8 is a simple anchorage with no retracting or inertia mechanisms, the belt passing through slots similar to the slots 14, 15.
