Abstract

1,171,972. Recording and playback. MINNESOTA MINING & MFG. CO. 18 Jan., 1967 [18 Jan., 1966], No. 2743/67. Heading G5R. [Also in Division H1] In electron beam recording apparatus the recording, photographic, film 14 is pressed against a raised border around aperture 60 of beam chamber 10 to form a vacuum seal, part of the raised border being constituted by a pair of spaced rails on the aperture plate 62 which rails mate with opposed rails on a pressure shoe 66 of the film gate 22. The film is advanced by a claw 72 and to thread the film the gate may be pivoted away from the position shown. As an alternative the pressure shoe may be fixed and the aperture plate movable. The film may be conductive, or have a conductive layer to dissipate electrical charges, or the pressure shoe may be of metal to constitute a ground plane for a similar purpose. Alternatively, a conductive plate may be provided between the rails.
