Abstract

1,171,925. Polymer compositions. CARBON PAPER CO. Ltd. 11 Oct., 1966 [24 June, 1966], No. 45486/66. Heading C3P. [Also in Division D2] A composition for copying paper (see Division D2) comprises a suspension of discrete, particulate polyethylene of low molecular weight, a discrete particulate wax or waxy acid, amide or alcohol, and an organic solvent in which both are partially dissolved. The composition may also contain a film-forming synthetic resin, synthetic rubber or cellulose derivative, and a white pigment. In the examples: (1) the composition is made by dissolving polyethylene of low molecular weight and stearic acid in hot toluene, cooling and adding light petroleum which precipitates a large part of the polyethylene and stearic acid as fine particles; (2) the composition is made by dissolving polyethylene of low molecular weight, castor wax and butyl rubber in hot toluene, and then cooling the solution; (3) the composition comprises polyethylene of low molecular weight, stearic acid, ethylcellulose, methanol and toluene; (4) the composition comprises polyethylene of low molecular weight, stearic acid, butyl rubber, titanium white, calcium carbonate and toluene.
