1398058 Hexamethylene-bis-biguanides FARMACEUTISK INDUSTRI AS 15 March 1973 [16 March 1972] 12457/73 Heading C2C Novel compounds in which R is hydrogen and R<SP>1</SP> is a 2-hexyl or 2-heptyl group optionally substituted by methyl in any of the 3- to 5- or 3- to 6-positions respectively, cycloalkyl having more than 6 C atoms, C 1-4 alkyl-cycloalkyl or cycloalkyl-C 1-4 alkyl or RR<SP>1</SP>N represents an azobicyclo-[3,2,2]-nonane ring and their acid addition salts are prepared by (1) reacting hexamethylene-bis-dicyanamide with an amine RR<SP>1</SP>NH or (2) reacting 1,6-diaminohexane with a dicyanamide RR<SP>1</SP>N-C(=NH)-NH-CN. R<SP>1</SP> is 6-methyl-hept-2-yl, 5-methyl-hex-2-yl, 4-methyl-hex-2-yl, hept-2-yl, 1-adamantyl 2-norbornyl or cyclohexylmethyl or with N and R forms 3-azabicyclo-(3,2,2]-non-3-yl group. Compounds I have anti-bacterial properties and may be used as disinfectants, in dentifrices and mouth washes and for the treatment of infection.
