Abstract

1,171,282. Burners. URQUHART ENG. CO. Ltd. 24 Nov., 1966 [9 Feb., 1966], No. 5772/66. Heading F4T. The luminosity of gas flames produced by burning hydrocarbon-bearing gas is increased by injecting a proportion of the gas as a jet, unmixed with air, into and along the axis of the gas flame at a velocity equal to or greater than the forward velocity of the body of the flame. As shown, gas is fed through control valves A, B via an annular space to coaxial annuli C, D and to a nozzle E, the flow of gas to annulus D being via passages F containing swirl vanes so that the stream issuing from annulus D is rotating.
