Abstract

1,170,806. SiO 3 Al 2 O 5 catalysts. UNIVERSAL OIL PRODUCTS CO. 15 March, 1967 [16 March, 1966 (2)], No. 12124/67. Heading B1E. SiO 2 -Al 2 -O 3 catalysts are made by forming an aqueous mixture of hydrated SiO 2 of pH not exceeding 5, separately commingling an aqueous solution containing NH 4 OH with an aqueous solution containing Al 2 (SO 4 ) 3 , using the NH 4 OH and Al 2 (SO 4 ) 3 in a ratio to form a soluble partial hydrolysis product of Al 2 (SO 4 ) 3 in which two of the three sulphate radicals have been replaced by hydroxyl radicals, commingling the partial hydrolysis product with the aqueous mixture comprising hydrated SiO 2 at a pH not exceeding 5 and thereafter effecting complete hydrolysis of the Al 2 (SO 4 ) 3 in the presence of the hydrated SiO 2 and recovering the resulting SiO 2 -Al 2 O 3 composite. Additionally during preparation the SiO 2 hydrate may be associated with a crystalline aluminosilicate if desired in ion exchanged form to yield a 3 component catalyst.
