Abstract

1,150,135. Silica pigments. O. W. BURKE. 17 July, 1967, No. 32840/67. Heading C1A. The preparation of silica pigment includes the step of mixing aqueous alkali metal silicate solution with CO 2 wherein at least part of the mixing subsequent to the appearance of the precipitate is carried out under conditions of shear low enough to produce a slurry of wet silica pigment having a filtration number of less than 30. A standardized method for determining the filtration number of a slurry is fully described. Mixing may be effected by a low shear stirrer or by gas agitation.
