Abstract
1,170,686. Bleaching pulp. STORA KOPPARBERGS BERGSLAGS A.B. 3, Feb., 1967 [25 Feb., 1966], No. 5361/67. Heading D1P. In a process for bleaching cellulose pulp in a sequence of bleaching stages the prebleached pulp from which a major proportion of the lignin has been removed in an introductory bleaching process is subjected to a treatment at pulp concentrations of 5% or more by weight with chlorine in amounts exceeding those capable of reacting with the lignin in the pulp during the treatment period. The pulp may be sulphite pulp bleached in five stages according to the bleaching sequence Cl 2 , NaOH, Cl 2 +C10 2 , NaOH, C10 2 or sulphate pulp bleached in seven stages according to the bleaching sequence Cl 2 , NaOH, Cl 2 +C10 2 , NaOH, C10 2 , NaOH, C10 2 , the treatment of the pulp with excess chlorine being effected at the third stage in either case. The pulp may be bleached at this stage for 2-6 hours at a temperature below 35C. and the pulp may contain 0.5-2 grams of chlorine dioxide per kilogram of pulp calculated as active chlorine.
