[Also in Divisions B8 and C5] Apparatus for producing strands of cooking fat coated with non-self adhesive edible material to enable the strands to be packed together without losing their identity, comprises an extruder plate 3 with means 4 to chop the emerging strands 5 into sections 6 and a fluidising bed 12 for the material (flour, whey powder &c.) placed to receive the sections. Bed 12 is produced above a perforated false bottom 8 of a trough 7. A chamber 9 under bottom 8 is formed with an inlet 10 for compressed air. A screen conveyer 11 runs through bed 12 and is subjected to the blast of the fluidising air above the level of the bed as at 13 to remove excess coating from the sections 6a.
