Abstract
1,169, 802. Calibrating infrared and other electrical gas analyzers. INSTITUT DE RECHERCHES DE LA SIDERURGIE FRANCAIS. Jan. 16, 1967 [Jan. 18, 1966], No. 2194/67. Headings G1A and G1N. An infrared or other analyzer is calibrated by a programmer which periodically shuts off the test gas and passes two or more calibration gases through the analyzer in sequence. The corresponding analyzer outputs are compared with preset reference signals and any difference used to supply motors which reduce the difference. Once every two hours, a signal from the programmer 31 closes a valve 48 to shut off the gas under test and opens a valve 51 to supply gas free of the gas being tested for. The output of the analyzer is compared in amplifier 21 with a predetermined value set on potentiometer 22 and the amplifier output, if any, adjusts the position of a diaphragm 30 until the analyzer output equals the predetermined value. The programmer then closes valve 51 and opens 52 to admit gas having the maximum concentration of gas to be tested for. At the same time relays 24, 29 are changed over and the analyzer output is compared in amplifier 21 with a value set on potentiometer 23 to accord with the actual composition of the calibration gas. The output of amplifier 21 adjusts the gain of amplifier 15 until the analyzer output reaches the predetermined value. Means may be provided to repeat the calibration cycle so long as the corrections made by either of motors 27 or 28 is greater than a certain size. A switch is provided for manual initiation of the calibration cycle at any time. The invention may be applied to chromatographs, spectrometers and thermal conductivity analyzers and analyzers operating by paramagnetism.
