Abstract
1,174,982. Calibrating infrared analyzers. INSTITUT DE RECHERCHES DE LA SIDERURGIE FRANCAISE. March 7, 1967 [April 1, 1966], No.10648/67. Heading G1A. [Also in Division G4] Apparatus for calibrating an automatic analyzer comprises means for passing a first reference substance having a composition near the bottom of the analyzer scale through the analyzer, means for comparing the output of the analyzer with a fixed reference value and adding a voltage to the analyzer output so as to neutralize the difference, means for passing a second reference substance having a composition near the top of the analyzer scale through the analyzer and means for comparing the analyzer output with a second fixed reference value and multiplying the analyzer output by a factor such that the difference is neutralized. In an infrared gas analyzer the test gas is periodically cut off by a valve 4, Fig. 1, and replaced by a first reference gas. The analyzer output which is fed through an adjustable potentiometer 14 and an adjustable bridge circuit 15, 16 to a recorder 10 is compared in a differential amplifier 19 with a first reference value set on a potentiometer 20. The difference output from amplifier 19 is fed to a motor 24 which adjusts the potentiometer 15 and so adds a voltage to the analyzer output so as to reduce the difference between the inputs to amplifier 19 to zero. Valve 5 then switches over to admit a second reference substance to the analyzer and the output is this time compared with a second reference value set on potentiometer 21. The difference output of amplifier 19 is now connected to a motor 25 which adjusts the potentiometer 14. The switching of the valves 4 and 5 and the relays 51 and 46 are controlled by a motor operated cam circuit, Fig. 2 (not shown). In a modification Fig.3 (not shown) the potentiometers 14 and 15 are replaced by a plurality of fixed resistors in series, appropriate combinations of which are selected by counters which are operated until the output of amplifier 19 is reduced to zero.
