1,169,768. Feeding and delivering sheets. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP. 24 Aug., 1967 [7 Sept., 1966], No. 38936/67. Heading B8R. In a card processing machine in which cards 3 are successively passed from a feed roller arrangement 32, 33 to a delivery roller arrangement 40, 41, 42 through a reading station 1 and a hole-punching station 2 the movement of each card through the latter station is intermittent even though the gripper belt assembly 4, 6, 7, 15, carrying the cards moves continuously. The intermittent nature of the card movement through the punching station is derived from a continuously rotating cylindrical cam 30 which coacts with a pivoted arm depending from each gripper 15 to thereby oscillate the gripper while it passes along the cam. The oscillatory movement due to the cam 30 and the continuous movement due to the belt 4 superposed on each gripper causes each card 3 to oscillate backwards and forwards whilst the axis of oscillation continuously moves forwards, the oscillatory movement taking place in an arc. If desired the cam 30 may extend over the full length of the card path and only rotate when card oscillation is necessary. Pad members 37, 38 in the gripper path effects automatic opening of the grippers for the usual card feed and release functions.
