Abstract
1,169,409. X-ray film holder. V. NERI. 10 July, 1967 [10 Oct., 1966], No. 31575/67. Heading H5R. A holder for an X-ray film comprises a flexible enclosure 12 opaque to visible radiation, having spaced chamber portions 14, 16, joined by a connecting portion 18 giving communication between the two chambers, one of the chambers viz. 16 holding at least two rupturable sealed packets containing film processing fluids, said packets being retained in position by positioning means and being fitted with opening or rupturing means, e.g. pull tabs 32, 34, which project from the flexible enclosure and which rupture the containers to discharge their contents through passage 18 on to the photo-sensitive element contained in the other chamber 14, means being associated with the rupture devices to distinguish one from the other. Preferably, chamber 16 has an open end through which the pull tabs project, said open end being opposite the discharge orifice. The positioning means preferably comprises a relatively rigid element attached to the containers adjacent the discharge end of chamber 16 said element being prevented from withdrawal from the envelope. The containers may be made of flexible material and as shown by Fig. 5, may be attached to either side of the positioning means 56, the arrangement of containers 42, 52 being such that the pull tabs 32, 34 are spaced laterally across the width of the chamber. The two sides of chamber 16 may be heat-sealed at point 40 of the open end to provide guidance as the pull-tabs emerge from the chamber, and the positioning member 56 may be stapled at point 58 to prevent it being drawn from the chamber, as well as to attach packets 42 and 52 thereto. The holder is preferably made of two flexible sheets 22 heat-sealed at all but one side, i.e. the end of containers enclosing chamber 16, the edges of this open side being fitted with non-aligned grasping portions 36, 38 to facilitate the separation of the component sheets. Each of the containers 42, 52 preferably comprises a folded sheet of regenerated cellulose internally coated with heat-sealable thermoplastics material to give heat-sealable edges the pull tab extending from one of the edges, said edge having a slit therein defining a portion of the pull tab, and the initial point of tear when the tab is used. The pull tabs are marked e.g. with holes 64 and 66 to ensure the containers are opened in the correct order.
