Abstract
1,169,350. Cathode ray tubes. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 12 Sept., 1967 [15 Sept., 1966], No. 41520/67. Heading H1D. A method of protecting a C.R.T. against implosion comprises winding under tension of approximately <SP>1</SP>/ 10 their tensile strength glass fibres 11 on to the side wall of the faceplate of the tube to form a ring 9 extending from the mould match line 5 to or beyond the faceplate sealing seam 7 and adhering the ring to the faceplate preferably with an epoxy resin; the ring may be of varying thickness. A metal strap 13 having one or more portions is stretched or clamped over the ring 9 and a layer 17 of shock-resistant epoxy resin or lacquer extends forward from the ring 9 to the edge of the screen 15. Means for fastening the tube in a cabinet are provided in the region of ring 9.
