Abstract

1,158,198. Cathode ray display tubes. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 12 Sept., 1967 [14 Sept., 1966], No. 41519/67. Heading H1D. A TV display tube comprises a glass bulb and a clamping band for implosion protection forced on to the bulb and stuck to the glass. A steel band 4 supporting another steel band 5 is forced on to the bulb from its cone side up to the mould match line 3 of the faceplate, if necessary exceeding the elastic limit of band 4. A lubricating Zn coating is provided on band 4 to reduce damage to the glass. Band 4 extends over the seal between the cone 2 and the faceplate and is provided with stiffening ridges 7 having indentations 8 to form a space between the band and the glass which is filled with polyvinyl acetate and polyester or epoxy resin adhesive 11. The band may be forced further away from the glass by wedges. Fixing lugs 10 are mounted on band 4.
