Abstract
1,169,294. Valves. COOPER INDUSTRIES Inc. 6 Sept., 1967 [7 Sept., 1966], No. 40654/67. Heading F2V. A plate valve for fluid flow control comprises a valve body having a fluid passage 13 therein, a valve guard 22 having a fluid passage 18 therein, a flat annular valve plate 16 normally kept in a closed position by means 17 so that flow between the passages is prevented, and a recess 25 into which the plate is forced when moved into the open position by fluid pressure, the walls of the recess being sufficiently close to the plate to throttle the flow of fluid into and out of the recess during operation of the valve. Two circular series of flow passages 18, 19 may be formed in the valve guard which is mounted in the cylinder inlet of a reciprocating compressor. The valve plate may have a clearance of 0À003 to 0À005 from the recess and be held on its seat by helical, semicircular leaf or circular undulating springs.
