A vertically sliding member b<SP>1</SP> closes the open front of the sheel A and fumes escape from the interior through an aperture a<SP>2</SP> in the top of the shell. A light is provided in a housing a<SP>1</SP> for illumination. A sink b<SP>4</SP> together with services such as hot and cold water, gas and compressed air are provided at the rear of the bench top b. Storage units and a disposal unit are mounted underneath the bench top. A by-pass grill a arranged above the open front of the shell allows air to enter the interior of the shell when the vertically sliding member b<SP>1</SP> is in its closed position.
