Abstract

1,168,887. Cabinets; furniture joints. A. G. DIACK. 4 Oct., 1967, No. 45316/67. Headings A4B and A4H. In an upper comer joint 34 for a metal framed show case, prongs 98, 96 of a connector 94 are press-fitted in sockets in horizontal rails 28, 32 and in a post 24, and secured by screws 110, 114 each of which extends into a socket to engage a prong and bears against a rail or post. The corner joint 36 is similarly constructed and the lower corners each comprise an L-shaped connector screwed to the base 22 and having an upstanding lug plugged into the lower end of a socket in the posts. The posts and rails have plasticlined longitudinal channels 54, 58, 62 to receive the edges of glass panels, the channels being separated from the sockets by flanges through which some of the securing screws 110 pass. A slot, for passage of the screw, and a clamping member 112 (see Fig. 4) may be provided. Other securing screws (see Fig. 3) extend obliquely between the channels into a socket. A double channel is provided at the rear of the show case to receive sliding glass doors 88 supported on roller assemblies moving in tracks. The connector 94 is of unitary construction or, as shown, consists of an L-shaped member 98. secured in a groove 106 in the body of the connect- or by a screw. In further modifications the rails are each made of two sheet metal parts, e.g. stainless steel, welded together, or two show cases are secured, end to end, the corresponding side panels being omitted, by a member having flanges inserted in notches in filler strips disposed in the channels of the two abutted front and rear posts.
