Abstract

1,168,306. Bolt shears. AB BAHCO. 4 Aug., 1967, No. 35839/67. Heading B3W. A bolt shear has a pair of movable jaws 4, 5 each pivotably mounted on an eccentric 14 which is clamped in the required position between sideplates 6 to adjust the clearance between the cutting edges 13 of the jaws. The shear comprises handles 1, 2 pivoted together and pivoted to the jaws. The eccentrics are keyed to the bolts 7 by Woodruff keys 15. To adjust the separation of the edges 13 the nut 16 is unscrewed and the bolts rotated until the required separation is achieved. The bolt heads are restricted from rotation and the nuts 16 tightened. The width of the jaws 4, 5 is less than the length of the eccentric so that the jaws are not clamped by the side-plates 6. The movement of the jaws is synchronized by teeth 18, 19. The handles are provided with rubber buffers 9, 11.
