Abstract
1,168,253. Nuclear fuel elements. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE and CIE DES PRODUITS CHIMIQUES ET ELECTRO METALLURGIQUES PECHINEY. 10 Aug., 1966 [13 Aug., 1965], No. 35824/66. Heading B6C. [Also in Division C7] Beryllium sheaths for nuclear fuel elements are treated to provide resistance to corrosion by moist carbon dioxide coolant by coating with magnesium or a magnesium compound, e.g. by electrolysis, vapour deposition or Schoop metallizing. The coating may be formed electrolytically using an aqueous solution of magnesium as electrolyte, a magnesium anode and the workpiece as cathode. The beryllium surface may be previously cleaned by a sand blast or by use of a solution containing nitric, hydrofluoric and phosphoric acids.
