Abstract

1,168,184. Seals. RITTER PFAUDLER CORP. 18 May, 1967 [16 June, 1966], No. 23245/67. Heading F2B. A gasket comprises an inner member 170 and a protective cover of heat fusible and chemically resistant sheet plastics material formed with a continuous fused lip 190. The inner member may be made of asbestos, lead, plastics or hard rubber and provided with a metal reinforcement 180; if desired, the inner member may take the form of an O-ring. The cover may be made of a polyfluorocarbon (e.g. P.T.F.E.), polyhalofluorocarbon, polyalkylene, polyoxyalkylene, polyamide (e.g. nylon), polycarbonate or chlorinated polyalkylene polymer. The gasket may also be provided with an inner lip suitable for sealing a movable shaft, Figs. 6 or 7 (not shown). When the inner member is completely covered a vent hole (240) is necessary in the cover for releasing gas pressures when the gasket is compressed.
