Abstract

1,167,907. Electric hoists. GEO. W. KING Ltd. 30 Oct., 1967 [1 Nov., 1966], No. 49010/66. Heading B8B. [Also in Division F2] An electrically-operated chain hoist incorporates a polygonal chain sprocket 10 around which the hoist chain 11 passes and a spur wheel 12 which is coupled to the sprocket 10 via a splined shaft and which has a varying pitch circle diameter 13 such that variations in the chain velocity are minimized or avoided. The spur wheel and sprocket are fixed relative to each other such that a point of minimum pitch circle radius of the wheel 12 corresponds to the centre of a chain pocket on the polygonal sprocket 10, and a point of maximum pitch circle radius corresponds to a point at which the chain 11 coincides with the pitch circle diameter 13d of the sprocket 10. A cruciform sectioned guide passage for the chain 11 leaving the sprocket 10 is formed by two linked members co-extending with the chain and spring-biased into abutment with each other. A chain guard adjacent the sprocket wheel 10 is arranged to cut off the drive to the wheel in the event of the chain leaving the wheel.
