Abstract

1,167,358. Air filter for I.C. engines. GENERAL MOTORS Ltd. 26 Oct., 1967 [17 Nov., 1966], No. 51559/66. Heading B1T. The filter element 15 is sealingly clamped at both ends between shoulders 12, 14 internal to corresponding plastic shells 3, 2 adapted to be secured together by a central fastener member 4: upper shell 2 has a peripheral skirt 20 entering the wall of shell 3 in a sliding fit: when the two shells 2, 3 are interengaged, a flange 21 engages the upper edge 22 of the wall of shell 3. As described, radial ribs 23 are provided; when bolt 4 is tightened, shoulder 14 acts as a fulcrum forcing skirt 20 into tight engagement with shell 3. Bolt 4 engages a bail 7 fixed to the intake tube 8 of an I.C. engine; 18 is an air inlet, and 19 a subsidiary intake connectable to the engine crankcase to extract fumes therefrom; 24 are radial ribs, and 16, 17 are gaskets.
