Limbs, artificial.-A foot designed to prevent limping is so constructed that the rear portion is somewhat lifted at the moment when the foot is being lifted from the ground and whilst the front portions are lowered when the foot is about to be placed on the ground. The foot is connected to the leg by means of splints 1 carrying a rod 2 on which is loosely pivoted the rear portion 3 of the foot. A lever 15 is fast on the rod 2. The middle portion 5 of the foot is pivoted to the portion 3 by a joint 4 which allows only a very limited rotation. A toe piece 12 is pivoted to the middle part at 13. A pin 8 is carried by the member 5 and is engaged by a curved track 16, 17, 18 carried by the lever 15 and having its parts 16, 17 at a greater distance from the rod 2 than the part 18 so that, when the splints are inclined forward in the act of raising the foot, the track bears on the pin and causes the parts 3, 6 to rotate slightly as shown in Fig. 3. A number of springs 9 are attached near the pin 8 and are supported by rollers 10 carried by supports 11 secured on the rear part of the foot, and also have a bearing against rollers 14 carried by the toe portion. The effect described with reference to the lifting of the foot also takes place when the foot is placed on the ground, the splints 1 being inclined rearwardly and the part 17 engaging the pin 8.
