Abstract

1,167,060. Swaging. GESELLSCHAFT FUR FERTINGUNGS-TECHNIK UND MASCHINENBAU G.m.b.H. 19 May, 1967 [23 May, 1966], No. 23379/67. Heading B3H. Apparatus for swaging square section stock 5 from a continuous casting plant comprises at least two swaging units a, b each having only two opposed dies 1 which move both radially and longitudinally of the stock, the dies of the different units striking successively. The apparatus may include three vertical swaging units a, d, e and two horizontal units b, c. Alternatively the vertical and horizontal units may be arranged alternately or all units may be inclined at 45 degrees. Each unit comprises two dies 1 mounted on connecting rods 2 driven by eccentrics 4 in adjustable housings 9 for varying the stroke. These housings 9 are located by an adjusting screw 10 and an hydraulic piston 11 connected in a system which causes all the units to have their strokes varied simultaneously when the forging pressure becomes excessive. To permit longitudinal oscillating movement of the dies, the connecting rods 2 pass through pivotal guides 3 located in bearing shells 6 biased by springs 8 and hydraulic pistons 7. Two or more units may be arranged on a common forging box and driven by a common motor. A plurality of units may be combined in trains and two or more trains may be arranged in series or parallel. The apparatus is of particular use in supplying alloy steel stock of rectangular section to a sheet rolling mill.
