Abstract

1,167,046. Bats. GRAY-NICOLLS Ltd. 17 June, 1968 [3 April, 1967], No. 15064/67. Heading A6D. A bat. e.g. a cricket bat, is made by (a) making the bat blade by conventional methods as far as the stage of coarse sanding of the blade (b) coating the blade surface with adhesive, (c) wrapping the blade in a fibrous covering material, and (d) impregnating the fibrous covering with a liquid plastic material and moulding this closely around the blade. More than one coating of the plastic material may be applied in step (d) and, as a final step, the toe of the bat may be dipped in the liquid plastic material. The plastic material may be, for example, a polyurethane foam and the fibrous material may be, for example, a manmade fibre or linen.
