Abstract

1,167,034. Coating tampons; coating apparatus. KIMBERLY-CLARK CORP. 13 Oct., 1966 [15 Oct., 1965], No. 45825/66. Headings B2E and B2L. [Also in Division A5] A method for coating tampons with a normally solid, water-soluble lubricating material which is soluble in body fluids comprises reducing the solid material to a liquid state, dividing the liquified material into discrete droplets, permitting the droplets to partially solidify, and when in the partially solidified state depositing the droplets in a discontinuous reticulated pattern on the surface of the tampons and allowing the droplets to return to their normally solid state. Polyethylene glycols with may be admixed with waxes, gums, oils, starches and organic solvents are the specified coating materials. In Figs. 1, and 2, tampons 40 are rotated axially and passed through the trough 42 where they are sprayed with droplets fed from tank 25 through rotor 22 and under discs 24, the droplets being partially congealed by their passage through the atmosphere. The coating material is supplied to the rotor 22 from heated tank 26.
