Abstract

1,166,965. Turbine power plant. BABCOCK & WILCOX Ltd. Jan.18, 1968 [Jan.18, 1967], No. 2884/68. Heading F1Q. A power plant has a boiler (not shown) for the generation of vapour and a turbine 1 connected to be operated by vapour generated in the boiler, pre-heating means 3 whereby operating fluid may be heated before being supplied to the boiler, a gas turbine (not shown) means whereby gases exhausted from the gas turbine may be passed to the combustion chamber of the boiler, an air heating heat exchanger 5, means for leading combustion air to the boiler through the air heating heat exchanger means for leading operating fluid from the pre-heating means through the air heating heat exchanger to serve as heating fluid for combustion air flowing therethrough means whereby the flow of combustion air through the air heating heat exchanger may be altered and means whereby the flow of operating fluid through the air heating heat exchanger may be altered. During peak operation power from the turbine 1 is augmented by a gas turbine installation (not shown). At a point 4 feed water may, instead of passing through the de-aerator 10, be diverted to flow through tubes 5b in the heat exchanger 5 serving for the heating of the combustion air 5a used in the boiler through the pipe 7a the desuperheater 7 receives highly superheated steam bled from the turbine. From the desuperheater 7 desuperheated steam passes through the duct 7b to the de-aerator 10 whilst saturated steam passes through the duct 7c from the desuperheater 7 to the fluid heating heat exchanger 8.
