Abstract

1,166,873. Sheet forming. BEBO-PLASTIK G.m.b.H. 9 Nov., 1967, No. 51061/67. Heading B5A. False-bottomed beakers are drawn from heatsoftened plastics sheet material 1 by a cooled female vacuum mould 4, the base of which is provided with an annular recess 10, and a reciprocable die 15 furnished with a complementary collar 18. The die also carries a curved elastomeric disc 21 adapted to engage a step 20 in the female mould. In operation, the sheet is first drawn partly into the mould by vacuum and the die then lowered. Upon full penetration of the die the collar 18 co-operates with the recess 10 to form the rim of the false bottom. Simultaneously the disc 21 engages the step 20 and is distorted to a flat radially expanded condition thus forcing the sheet into contact with the step. The bottom part of the mould is maintained at a higher temperature than the rest by virtue of an insulating ring 11 interposed between the mould and a cooling bath 30.
