Abstract

1395611 Sheet forming PIONEER PLASTIC CONTAINERS Ltd 11 May 1973 [15 May 1972] 22727/72 Heading B5A A method of thermo-forming a container comprises clamping and pressure moulding the periphery of a blank B to form a flat rim at the mouth of the container prior to, or concurrently with the formation of the body of the container. In the figures, a mould cavity formed by pivoted halves 10 is first raised to engage a clamping collar 2. Subsequently collar 2 is raised to engage a sheet W and concurrently piston 3 is lowered with members 4 and 5 to cut the blank from the sheet. Piston 3 with member 4 continues to move downwardly so that the rim is formed between surfaces 4A, 11A. Continued movement of the piston 3, together with applied air pressure or vacuum extends the blank until it conforms to the inside of the cavity 10. Finally upward movement of a piston 7 forms a false bottom. The mould halves 10 have cooled water ducts 12.
