Device for deep-drawing hollow bottom cups made of plastic film
The invention relates to a device for deep-drawing hollow-bottom cups made of plastic film by means of a vacuum in a cooled mold and with a stamp cooperating with this.
It is an old desire to provide the deep-drawn plastic cups known per se with a hollow bottom, as is known from paper cups and is desirable for reasons of aesthetics and stability.
However, the practical execution of such cups failed due to technical difficulties in the formation of the very narrow cup base.
Surprisingly, such a cup succeeds according to the invention by means of a device of the type mentioned at the outset, in which the shape at the bottom edge has an annular groove corresponding to the base edge of the cup and the punch has a corresponding, thin annular collar.
According to a special embodiment, the shape in the foot area of the cup is less exposed to cooling. Cooling of the mold itself is necessary because the deep-drawn film must solidify in the shape given to it before it is removed from the mold.
This cooling even has to be quite strong, since the cycle times are short and the time available for solidification of the material is also short.
It has been shown, however, that a very narrow cup base, as desired to avoid a substantial annular gap at the bottom of the cup, can only be achieved if the material, which is exposed to very high stresses during the molding process in this area, is sufficiently plastic .
In the case of the shape surrounded by cooling water, shielding in the foot area of the cup is advantageously achieved by an insulating layer.
It is also advantageous if the mold bottom is separated from the cooled parts of the mold by an insulating layer, in particular a cavity.
It is useful if the punch is drawn in above the collar in the sense of a greater distance from the mold wall. Contrary to conventional statements, it does not have a direct shaping effect on the film in this area, which prevents the film material from solidifying too quickly.
It is advantageous if the mold has an outwardly jumping step a little below the edge, and an expanding punch is provided which, in the rest position, has a diameter smaller than the inner edge diameter of the mold and elastically expands radially after being placed on the step.
This expansion punch is advantageously designed as a conical plate made of elastic material, the concave side of which is turned towards the mold. In another embodiment it is provided that the expansion ram comprises a soft, elastic ring which, in the working position, in cooperation with the molding step, suffers an increase in diameter into the space formed by the step due to axial or radially outward pressure.
The invention is explained in more detail below with reference to the drawing, which shows an advantageous embodiment of the invention.
The device according to the invention is illustrated in four different working stages in four figures, each of which forms one half of a longitudinal section of two sectional views.
The deep-drawn part 1 of a continuous film web is clamped between a hold-down plate 2 and the upper surface 3 of a molded body 4. The hold-down device and molded body have interacting molding steps 5 to form the cup collar.
The molded body 4 is closed at the bottom by a plate 6 which carries the mold bottom 7 with an intermediate space 8 via spacers 9. Between the side wall of the molded body 4 and the side edges of the mold bottom 7, the annular groove 10 is formed for the Be cherfuss. In the foot area of the mold, it is surrounded by an insulating layer 11, for example made of Teflon, which shields this area from the cooling water that otherwise surrounds the molded body on all sides.
The punch 15, which is vertically movable along the axis 14, penetrates the cavity of the molded body in the direction of arrow 16 through the opening 12 in the hold-down plate 2 and in the hold-down plate 13 carrying it.
The molded body held on the spindle 17 has the molded collar 18 on the lower, outer edge, which cooperates with the annular groove 10 to form the cup base. The underside of the stamp 15 is covered by an insulating layer 19, for example made of Teflon. This layer also absorbs the not insignificant shock that occurs when the upper punch hits the mold plate 7.
A little above its upper edge, the molded body has the step 20 which, in cooperation with the expanding punch 21, serves to form a stacking edge on the cup. The expansion ram 21 is formed by an elastic washer which is clamped between two nuts 22 and 23 in a spherical shape. The disk can originally be of a planar shape.
The distance of the outer, lower edge of the disc 21 from the lower surface of the punch 15 is a little less (for example 1 mm) than the distance between the step 20 and the bottom of the molded body 4. The expanding punch 21 is fixed to the punch 15 connected to the spindle 17.
Vacuum lines 24 open at different heights and evenly distributed over the circumference in the mold wall and in the step 20. The space below the mold bottom 8 is also connected to the vacuum lines. A vent line 25 leads through the spindle 17 to the lower surface of the punch 15.
The operation of the device is described below:
Undeformed film 1 passes between hold-down plate 2 and shaped body 4, which appears in its lowered position in FIG. 4. When the shaped body is raised against the hold-down plate, the edge collar according to FIG. 1 is formed.
The vacuum that then takes effect in the interior of the mold pulls the film into this cavity, as indicated in an intermediate stage at 26. Immediately thereafter, the punch 15 is moved downwards according to FIG. 2 until it reaches its lowest position according to FIG. 3, in which the collar 18 has penetrated into the annular groove 10, forming the cup base. Shortly beforehand, the spreading ram 21 is placed on the step 20 or on the film drawn into this step by the vacuum. When the expansion ram is deformed, its diameter increases.
Its outer edge penetrates into the step space, the film being pulled outwards in the same step shape, forming a step that is inversely conical or at least very steep compared to the conical shape of the rest of the cup, which ensures the stackability of the cups. The expanding die 21 is advantageously made of Teflon, since this material has a very low coefficient of friction and allows it to slide on the step 20 on the sensitive film material without damage.
Fig. 4 shows the device with the molded parts moved apart. The stamp 15 can be easily removed from the cup because the cooling of the cup base is weaker than that of the other cup areas, but is sufficient to solidify the material without the material sticking to the molded parts.
