Abstract

1,166,687. Fibrous materials; yarns. MONSANTO CHEMICALS Ltd. 29 Dec., 1967 [30 Jan., 1967], No. 4486/67. Addition to 1,114,151. Headings D1R and D1W. A process for the production of fibrous material comprises passing an orientated extruded foamed thermoplastic material through successive pairs of rotatable opposed pressure rolls arranged with their axes substantially parallel and transverse to the direction of orientation of the material, and reciprocating at least one pair of rolls relative to an adjacent pair in a direction having a component parallel to the roll axes to bring about fibrillation of the orientated thermoplastic material. The fibrous assembly may be made into a non-woven fabric or into a yarn. The thermoplastic material may be polyamide, polyester, polyacrylic, vinylic, cellulosic, polyurethane or polyolefine.
