Abstract

[Also in Division G2] A container 10 for dispensing toner powder in xerographic machines comprises a hollow cylindrical member 11 having an opening 12, a first disc-shaped end member 13 secured to one end thereof, a second disc-shaped end member 15 having a boss 16, and a hollow cylindrical element 20 rotatably supported in member 11 and having a closed first end portion 22, a second end portion 24 having an opening for filling the container with powder and a groove 25 which coacts with boss 16 to limit the rotation of the element in the member, a closure portion 21 adapted to cover opening 12, and a drive member 23 extending through end member 13 for rotating the element to empty the contents of the container. In use a full sealed container is positioned on a fold-away loader device (100), Fig. 4 (not shown), of a xerographic copier above a toner metering mechanism (6), Fig. 1 (not shown), with a lock portion 17 of end member 15 located in a slot (44) on a gasket plate (43) of the loader; a lever (94) is provided to rotate a spring-biased drive hub (30) having a slot (31) which engages drive member 23, thus breaking the seal and opening the container to empty the toner into the metering mechanism (6). Drive hub (30) has a cam (34) which, when the container is opened, pushes a pivoted latch (54) into engagement with end member 13 to prevent the container being removed when open.
