Abstract

1,166,429. Crucibles. SIGRI ELEKTROGRAPHIT G.m.b.H. 26 July, 1968 [26 July, 1967 (2)], No. 35916/68. Heading F4B. [Also in Divisions C1, C7 and H5] A carbon or graphite body such as an arc electrode or crucible is coated, e.g. by flame spraying with a coating comprising a first layer consisting of by weight 90-100% Si and a total of 0-10% of one or more of Na, Mg, Ca, B, Al, Ti, Zr, Mn, Fe, C, N 2 , P and O 2 and a second surface layer consisting of 85-100% Al and a total of 0-15% of one or more of Na, Mg, B, Si, P, O 2 , Cu, Zn, P6, Ti, Zr, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co and Ni. The first layer is 0À01-0À15 mm. thick and the surface layer 0À05-0À6 mm. thick. A sealing layer of an alkali metal borate and/or phosphate and/or silicate may also be applied. The coating may be fused by heating in argon arc or a plasma burner. The following alloys are disclosed: (1) 98À5% Si, 0À8% Fe, 0À5% Al, 0À2% Ca. (2) 95% Si, 3% Ti, 1À5% Fe, 0À5% Al. (3) 99% Al, 0À7% Mg, 0À3% Si. (4) 98À2% Al, 1À5% Mg, 0À3% Mn.
