Abstract

1,166,423. Recording instrument reservoir. VICTOR COMPTOMETER CORP. 9 May, 1968 [10 May, 1967], No. 22136/68. Heading B6P. A closed reservoir for a recording instrument comprises a rigid tray 22 of moulded polyethylene, a thin flexible membrane 29 of fluorohalocarbon plastics material which conforms to the inner contour of the tray and is marginally sealed thereto, and a heavy gauge cover film 32 of fluorohalocarbon plastics material disposed across the top of the tray and marginally heat sealed to the membrane 29. The tray is filled with ink via a bore 23, the membrane 29 being pressed into contact with the cover film 32. An aperture 34 in the cover film 32 allows exit of air. A laminate of fluorohalocarbon plastics and polyethylene is used as a gasket 31 between the edge of the tray and the membrane 29, and also as a film 33 heat-sealed to the bottom of the tray. The reservoir is retained in position in a recording instrument (Fig. 1) by snap-fit means (24) engaging a post (19). Before use, the reservoir is packaged in a container (Fig. 4) comprising a lower portion (35) with a cavity shaped to receive the reservoir, and an upper portion (36) with a cavity which carries a pressure pad (39) adapted to exert pressure against the reservoir when the two portions of the container are clamped together.
