Abstract
1,166,263. Cathode-ray tubes. STANDARD ELEKTRIK LORENZ A.G. 1 Nov., 1966 [1 Nov., 1965], No. 48973/66. Heading H1D. A cathode ray tube implosion protection sheath, in the form of a strip-frame having an opening corresponding to part of the slightly conical portion of the tube envelope rearward of the faceplate, is applied by placing over the tube and pressing it towards the faceplate, along the direction of the tube axis, whereby the frame is deformed, by stretching, to the exact shape of the portion of the glass envelope with which it is in contact. Optionally, adhesive may be applied to the bearing surface of the strip frame, to provide additional restraint against displacement. Angle-pieces 12, Fig. 5, may be secured to the strip-frame, and screwed to the cabinet 11 through an interposed plastics member 13. Alternatively, the angle-pieces may be secured to a separate front-frame (Figs. 1 to 3, not shown) edging the faceplate and held by means of tongues passing through apertures in a flange of the strip-frame. In a further embodiment, Fig. 6, the angle pieces are held by the engagement of a hook-shaped portion 15 over the strip-frame flange, which permits movement of the angle-piece along the flange for alignment when fixing to the cabinet, and the front edge 25 of the strip-frame is beaded. When applying the strip-frame to the tube, it is held by means of a tension ring mounted on a mandrel, while the tube rests on its faceplate on a correspondingly shaped surface.
