Abstract

1,166,261. Refrigerating. PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN N.V. 15 July, 1966 [19 July, 1965], No. 31916/66. Heading F4H. [Also in Division F1] The invention is set out as a hot gas reciprocating engine but it is stated that this term includes a cold gas refrigerator and a heat pump. As shown a hot gas reciprocating engine comprises a storage container 303 for working medium, a medium inlet duct 302 for placing the working space in communication with the storage container and which is provided with a controllable cock 305 and a check valve 304 and a medium outlet duct 306 provided with a check valve 307 and communicating at one end with the working space 323 and at the other end with the inlet of a compressor 310 the outlet of which communicates with the storage container through a third duct 312. The third duct comprises a check valve 313. A fourth duct 314 is provided which communicates at one end with the third duct at a point between the check valve in the third duct and the outlet of the compressor and at the other end with the medium outlet duct at a point between the check valve in this duct and the inlet of the compressor. The fourth duct comprises a controllable cock 315 which is arranged normally to be open and to be closed when the quantity by weight of the medium in the working space is to be decreased. The medium outlet duct has such a volume that when the cock is open substantially no pressure variations occur in the medium outlet duct. The medium outlet duct may comprise a buffer chamber and the check valve in the medium outlet duct may be arranged between the working space and the buffer chamber and open towards this chamber. The check valve in the medium outlet duct between the buffer chamber and the working space may comprise a piston ring arranged in a groove in a piston which separates the buffer chamber from the working space.
