Abstract

1,053,896. Refrigerating. PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN, N.V. March 5, 1964 [March 8, 1963], No. 9392/64. Heading F4H. [Also in Division F1] An engine is arranged as a hot gas engine (see Division F1) or as a cold-gas refrigerator containing two pistons 42, 43, Fig. 3, reciprocating with a variable mutual phase shift to vary the volume of an expansion space 48 and a compression space 47 which communicate through cooler 44, regenerator 45 and freezer 46. A mean pressure equal to that in the working spaces is maintained in buffer spaces 49, 50. The swept volumes of the expansion space and the compression space are arranged so that at zero phase difference between the piston movements no pressure fluctuations occur in the working space.
