1,165,876. Soldering. DEUTSCHE STEINZEUGUND KUNSTSTOFFWARENFAB. RIK. 12 March, 1968 [18 March, 1967], No. 12085/68. Heading B3R. To close a hole of greater than ten millimetres diameter in a ceramic member, the marginally flanged edge of a copper sheet not more than 1 millimetre thick is soldered into the hole. A ceramic member 1 including 85% or more aluminium oxide has a hole metallized at 3 and a flanged copper sheet 4 is soldered in the hole by silver-copper eutectic solder. The body of the sheet may be flat or recessed to provide a central dished portion with the flange extending in the opposite direction to the recess. Alternatively a centrally dished body may have its flange extending in the same direction as the recess. The assembly may provide part of a casing for a diode or thyristor when a further metal part is soldered around the outside edge of the ceramic member.
