A hinge for an oven door pivotable about a horizontal axis, is carried 'by the hinged member or door and is provided with a retaining socket on the support or oven wall from which socket it is readily detachable so that the door may be removed. The door 14 has an outer wall 15a, an inner wall 15, and a .peripheral sealing strip 16 sealing with the front wall 13 of the stove body, the door being stiffened by a vertical angle member 17. Rigidly secured to this member is a vertical bar 18, to the lower end of which is pivotally connected. a hinge plate, 19 by a pin 20, the horizontal . hinge axis extending through this pin to a corresponding hinge structure on the opposite side of the door. An arm 21 of the hinge plate extends transverse to the hinge line through a slot 22 in the inner wall of the door. A link 23 is pivotally connected at one end 24 to the hinge plate, the other end being connected by a tensioning spring 25 to a bracket 26 welded to the wall of the door, so as to bias the door towards the closed position in a clockwise direction. The arm 21 has on its lower edge a wedge shaped locking abutment 27, and carries a manually operated carrier plate 28, one end of the plate being turned out to form a finger grip portion 29, the other end turned in to form a guiding abutment 30 which slides in a longitudinal guide slot 31; the plate carries a transverse pin 32 which slides in an elongated slot 33 aligned with the guide slot 31. The lower end of the link 23 has a detent 34 which engages with the pin 32 when the latter is in the position whereat the abutment 30 engages the end of the slot proximal to the door. The arm 21 cooperates with a retaining socket 35 rigidly mounted within the side wall 11 of the stove body 10, comprising a channel shaped member welded at one end to an angle member 36 on the front wall of the stove, and bolted at its other end 39 to a welded fixing lug 38. The channel shaped member has upper (42) and lower (43) edges each of which has a locking aperture 44 and 45 respectively. The lower aperture only is functional, the upper one providing for the same socket being usable at the alternate side of the stove body. The channel member has flanges 46 and 47 with opposed horizontal edges 48 and 49. The arm 21 of the hinge plate is inserted through an aperture 41 in the stove front wall, into the entry aperture 40 of the socket, and slides home until its end engages an abutment 52, when the locking abutment 27 drops into the aperture 45. The carrier plate 28 is then manually slid forward, so that the pin 32 engages the horizontal lower edge 48 of the flange 46, whereby the arm 21 cannot be lifted and the locking abutment is thus: secured in place. To release the arm from the socket, the carrier plate is slid back, the pin engages the detent 34 in the lower end of link 23, thus locking the hinge against pivoting movement, and the door, and hence the locking abutment, are lifted up and the arm 21 withdrawn. The link also has a hook abutment 53 which engages a fixed stop pin 54 on the bar 18 when the door is fully open to prevent further pivoting of the door about the hinge axis. The bar 18 also carries a roller 55, engaging a cam formation on the inner edge of the link, which cam comprises a first detent 56 and a second detent 57; when the roller is in the first detent, the door is held in the closed position, the second detent serving to hold it in a partially open position suitable for use of the oven for broiling purposes.
