Abstract

727,167. Sliding roofs. WEATHERSHIELDS, Ltd. Sept. 28, 1953 [Sept. 29, 1952; Oct. 30, 1952], Nos. 24319/52 and 27273/ 52. Class 108 (1). A known type of sliding roof comprises a flush panel which may be lowered at its rear edge to slide beneath a fixed part of the roof, and a watercheck frame extending alongside the panel opening and beneath the fixed roof. In the invention however', the watercheck frame 12, 13 and 14, Fig. 1, surrounds only the openings, the panel 10 being guided rearwardly of the opening by lugs 17 engaging light angle section members 15 secured to the trough 14 and a member 16 fastened beneath the fixed roof. Lips 25 on the side members 13 support slides on the front of the panel. The panel may in the closed position be raised flush with the roof by turning a handle 19 which rotates a rod 21, Fig. 4, provided with cranked ends 22 co-operating with ramps 23, and cams 24 may lock the panel in an open or intermediate position by gripping the flanges 15 between the cams and the pads 18. The rear end of each member 13 is cut away. Fig. 2, to leave a gap between the rear end of the flange 25 and the front end of member 15, the rear slide 18 lying in this gap when the panel is closed. A vertical baffle 26 and a rubber strip 29 direct water to drain pipes 28. In a modification, only a single central longitudinal guide bar is provided to co-operate with a slider on the panel, the bar being reduced in width within the channel 14 to which it is fixed so that the slider may be moved vertically off the bar by the rod 21. A flexible locking bar parallel to the guide bar and telescoping into a longitudinal channel in the panel may be gripped by a cam or the like operated by the handle.
