Abstract

1,165,381. Coating. KURASHIKI RAYON K.K. 3 Aug., 1966 [3 Aug., 1965], No. 34775/66. Heading B2E. [Also in Division Dl] A smooth non-woven fibrous sheet is produced by applying to the nap on the surface of a needled mat a solvent or swelling agent for the material of the nap, pressing the fibrous sheet whereby the naps are stuck down to the body of the sheet, impregnating the sheet with a polyurethane and covering the surface of the sheet with a polyurethane. The solvent or swelling agent can be applied by spraying, roller coating or brushing and may be a methanol solution of CaCl 2 . The fibrous sheet can be laminated and needled staple nylon-6 fibre web or a mix-spun nylon-6- polystyrene fibre web (the polystyrene component being subsequently removed). The web may be impregnated and coated by coagulation from a solution of polyurethane elastomer in dimethyl formamide. The pressing can be at 90 or 110‹C. The napless fabric produced resembles leather. The product can be embossed and lacquered.
