Abstract
116,509. Coles, S. O. Cowper-. March 6, 1918. Electrodes, moving; preparing surfaces; moulds. -A copper tube is deposited on a mandrel which may be turned axially at intervals and extends at its lower end into a recess in a wooden or other insulating block e<2>. Anodes consist of impure copper cast into rough tubes or rings, or cast or built up into cylindrical grids. Such a grid b is shown suspended by hooks c. The mandrel e is attached to a head f fitting a socket o which can be turned in the cover of the cell by means of arms j. The mandrel may be tapered, and is preferably of iron or steel sheathed in lead, which may be coated with oxide or sulphide and is melted out when deposition is complete. The electrolyte, such as a copper sulphate solution, may be slowly circulated.
