1,165,011. Web coating apparatus. PLANATOLWERK W. HESSELMANN CHEMISCHE UND MASCHINENFABRIK FUR KLEBETECHNIK. 23 Aug., 1966 [24 Aug., 1965], No. 37736/66. Heading D1L. Apparatus for coating e.g. with an adhesive, a base in the form of; a sheet, band or tape e.g. a web of paper comprises a hollow coating device with a closable outlet, the apparatus being provided with means in contact with the base for vertical adjustment whereby a determined distance is maintained between the outlet and the base. The means for vertical adjustment is preferably in the form of a roller or ring mounted on an adjustable eccentric member, the eccentric member being mounted on a shaft attached to the coating device and extending transversely to the direction of relative movement between the base and the outlet. The eccentric member is preferably in the form of an eccentrically bored hollow shaft which is connected to a hand wheel for angular adjustment. The vertical adjustment may also be effected by interchangeable rollers of differing diameters or by means of a roller with adjustable diameter. The coating device described is in the form of a hollow cylinder with a slot-like outlet closable by means of a foil with a corresponding outlet, the foil and cylinder being relatively movable.
