Abstract

1,164,856. Fuels. APOLLO CHEMICAL CORP. 19 Sept., 1967, No. 42711/67. Heading C5G. A fuel comprises a distillate, residual or solid fuel e.g. coal or coke, and an additive mixture which consists of 2 x 10<SP>-5</SP>-1À35 moles of metal/ 1000 gallons of fuel or its equivalent of (A) one or more of the metals Fe, Mn, or Cu or one or more compounds thereof and 0À001-2À5 moles of metal/1000 gallons of fuel or its equivalent of (B) one or more of the metals Pb, Co, Ni, Zn, Cr, Sb, Sn or V or one or more compounds thereof, the metal (A) concentration being less than that of (B). Metal compounds specified are tallates, naphthenates, octoates, phenates, phosphates, phosphonates, borate complexes, cyclopentadienyls, carbonyls, acetyl acetonates, aldehyde/ amine complexes, glycerides, sulphonates, alkyls and aryl alkyls. With solid fuels the metal may also be present as the oxide, hydroxide, carbonate, silicate, or aluminosilicate. The fuels may also contain other metal salts of tall oil fatty acids, naphthenic acids, fatty acids, sulphonic acids, phenols, phosphosulphurized olefins, amines and amides, ketones, aldehydes, alcohols, sulphones, sulphoxides, amines, dimethylformamide and acetamide, parachlorophenols, paranitrophenol and 3,5-dimethyltetrahydro 1,3,5,2 H-thiadiazine-2-thione. Fuels specified are gasoline, jet fuel, diesel fuel, coal, coke, lignite, peat and bagasse.
