Abstract

1,164,766. Suction lifting heads. ALVEY CONVEYOR MFG. CO. 1 April, 1968, No. 15495/68. Heading B8H. In a suction lifting head, Fig. 4, reduced pressure is produced in a chamber 36 by a blower 56 and articles A are compacted and a seal is provided round them by inflatable peripheral members 38, 40. The inlet 57 to the blower is closed by a slide 59 moved by a ram 62. Air for inflating the members 38, 40 is drawn from the blower outlet and controlled by a ram-operated valve or a fixed deflector plate. The inflatable members may be replaced by resilient linings 38f, Fig. 4A, within the side walls. In a modification, Fig. 7, the articles are compacted and sealed by resilient pads 100, 120 moved inwards by rams 93, 113 and levers 96, 97, 116, 117. The device is used to automatically lift a layer of articles A from a pallet P. Fig. 1, to a table F or vice versa. Circuit diagrams, Figs. 5, 8 (not shown), are provided.
