1356384 Endless conveyers BAKER PERKINS DEVELOPMENTS Ltd 1 July 1971 [12 May 1970] 22957/70 Heading B8A Apparatus for feeding individual columns of biscuits 2 to associated removal stations 8 in which the rate of feed is controllable comprises a conveyer 1 from which a column of biscuits is fed to a stationary plate 3 leading to a curved guide surface 6 which defines a magazine, a clamping device 14 in the form of an inflatable bladder being located in a wall bounding the column 2, said device being actuated by means of a detector 13 whenever the radial height of biscuits in the region 12 exceeds acertain amount, the detector 13 actuating an air valve 41 thus inflating the bladder which grips the column of biscuits between itself and the wall on the opposite side of the column. When the build up of biscuits in the region 12 has been released the detector 13 is automatically lowered whereby the bladder is exhausted thereby permitting the continued movement of the column of biscuits. The stationary plate 3 may be replaced by an endless conveyer. As shown in Fig. 2 (not shown), a number of parallel columns of biscuits may be fed on or across the surface 3 with a plurality of upright walls bounding the individual columns, an expansible clamping device being located in every wall except the last. Instead of being formed as an inflatable bladder each clamping device may be a mechanically operated device.
