Abstract

1,164,429. Cleaning metals. HALLIBURTON CO. Feb. 3, 1969 [April 23, 1968], No.5721/69. Heading C7E. Copper containing iron oxide scale is removed from a ferrous surface using, e.g. sulphuric, hydrochloric or phosphoric acid, containing a complexing agent which is monomethyl or monoethyl thiourea. The solution may be agitated and heated to 120 to 160‹ F. and it may contain a nitrogen-containing corrosion inhibitor. The ferrous surface may first be contacted with a hot ammonia solution containing an oxidizing agent such as sodium bromate, ammonium persulphate or sodium chlorate.
