Abstract
1,164,362. Expanding pulley gear. TOS KURIM. 21 June, 1967 [4 July, 1966], No. 28529/67. Heading F2D. An automatic chain tensioner for an expanding pulley chain gearing comprises both pairs of conical pulley flanges 3 connected by levers 2 pivoted to tensioner blocks 12, 15 respectively threaded on a pair of oppositely threaded bushes 10, 16 which are themselves screwed on opposite pitch threads 13, 17 on a spindle 14, the spindle 14 being initially rotated manually by a disc 19 and locked by a screw 20 at the required chain tension after which spring-loaded levers 8, 25, fast with the bushes 10, 16, are adjusted by screw and nut connections 5, 6 such that the bushes 10, 16 are subjected to a continuously applied torque tending to tighten the chain adjuster whereby the pre-set sag of the chain 4 is automatically maintained, the chain being tensioned against spring-loaded pivoted shoearms 21, 27.
