In an open-ended fibrous drum having a side wall 1, lined with plastics 2, e.g. polythene, and a re-inforcing metal chime 3, which overlies the lining 2 at an inner circumferential edge 6, the chime 3 is protected from the drum contents by a plastics shield 4, e.g. polythene, which is heat sealed to the lining 2 at 7. The heat sealing extends to a level 8 below the edge 6.
